Quest - Know Him Who is From the Beginning
How my quest began...
In late September 2021, I launched out on a "Quest". In this post, I'll talk about how it got started. In future posts, I will share some of the things I have been learning.
For a long time, I have pondered the passages in the Bible talking about hidden / secret things / mysteries that are later revealed. The one that got me started on this quest is Deuteronomy 29.29.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law. (BSB)
Before discussing that verse, I need to backup to the beginning of the chapter to get some context. In verses 2-4, Moses wrote:
2 Moses summoned all Israel and proclaimed to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land. 3 You saw with your own eyes the great trials, and those miraculous signs and wonders. 4 Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear. To summarize what Moses told the Israelites:
they had seen with their own eyes:
everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land [2]
the great trials, and those miraculous signs and wonders [3]
However, the LORD had not given them a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear [4]
From these three verses, I identified the first things I wanted from this quest:
a mind to understand
eyes to see
ears to hear
Now to verse 29 at the end of the chapter.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law. (BSB)
Again to summarize what Moses wrote:
The things that God reveals belong to us and our children forever
The purpose of revelation is so that we may fully obey God
